Research Options

Self-guided research at the Research Center

$5 per visit

Visit the Research Center and explore records at your own pace with assistance from a volunteer genealogist. Access census records, newspapers, family histories, and more.

Copies: 25¢ per page

Staff-assisted at the Research Center

$25 per search

Our Genealogy Committee will conduct a preliminary search on your behalf (covering one family only) using records available in our library. Requested by mail.

Send a check with your request. Your check will not be cashed until research has been completed and mailed.

Staff-assisted at the Courthouse

$25 per hour

Staff will research official courthouse records on your behalf, including deeds, wills, estate files, marriage licenses, naturalization papers, and more.

Copies: 50¢ per page

*Research fees are waived for lifetime members. There is no fee to tour the museums or Research Center.

Genealogy Committee research request

Write your query on plain paper and mail it with your $25 check to the address below. Please include a long, self-addressed stamped envelope to ensure a reply. Checks payable to “Clearfield County Historical Society.”

To help us assist you, include as much of the following as you know:

  • Full name of the person you are researching
  • Date of birth, death, or marriage (approximate dates are fine)
  • Township or location in Clearfield County where the family resided
  • Spouse’s surname, children’s names, or names of children’s spouses
