BACK IN THE DAY – A COMPILATION OF CLEARFIELD COUNTY RECIPES

Every year at Christmastime, the Clearfield County Historical Society hosts its annual book sale and open house. The board members and volunteers hustle and bustle to decorate the Victorian Kerr House Museum to welcome the spirit of Christmas inside the doors. The day of the open house is always an exciting day with Christmas music playing and friends reminiscing about days gone by. During the open house celebration for Christmas 2018, one of our board members, Sharon Aaron, prepared a spectacular spread of cookies and snacks all inspired by Victorian cooking. Our guests were amazed at the variety of old-fashioned delights such as, candied orange peels, sugar plums, and clove cake just to name a few. It was that day that one of our visitors asked if we had a cookbook with any of Sharon’s recipes. That is where the idea of this cookbook started.

Compiled in this cookbook is a collection of heirloom recipes that tell the story of foods that we all grew up with. While reading though this book, you will notice the immigrant influences that are deeply imbedded in the Clearfield County region. Food can mean nourishment, comfort and a connection to the roots of our families.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every person who submitted a recipe for this cookbook.
