Barns have changed over the years in both their construction and usage. In “From Log Barns to Pole Barns – A History of Change and Progress”, we will look at how and why the barns changed. We will review the materials, tools and construction techniques used through the years and the impact each had during the different periods of barn building. We will look at what has happened to the older barns and the current trends. This includes fires, collapses and barns being moved, refurbished or torn down. Every barn has a story and “Volume II of the Pennsylvania Barn Scrapbook” features 50 interesting ones! It also highlights the history of 60 more barns and documents another 50+ barns from the author’s rural countryside of Clearfield and Jefferson Counties in Western Pennsylvania.
